XMEN:Apocalypse (2016) - Trailer Reaction
by Bryan Mero

Second day in a row we get a big time trailer...this time it's X-MEN:Apocalypse from Brian Singer. This is the followup from X-Men:Days of Future Past, which I liked and set the X-Men onto a new timeline.

Now the trailer...my first reaction...meh. Don't get me wrong I'm a huge X-Men fan. I have hundreds of comic books that could prove it. Nowadays I think its an artform when you are putting together a trailer. Trailers are supposed to entice the audience to go see the movie. So many times this year we've seen trailers that basically show act 1, 2 and 3 of the movie (i.e. Superman v Batman). This trailer was a little different. We get to see all the new actors as mutants...much younger than before and it is hard to have an opinion about all of them when you only see them for a split second on screen.

Gripes and Likes:

Gripes - Jennifer Lawrence feels and sounds out of place in this...I can't quite put my finger on it. I love JL, from Hunger Games to the new X-Men, but there's something about her character of Raven that seems out of place. I'm sure the next trailer will assure us a bit more.

Likes - Professor X in the chair with no hair. Great ending to the trailer but will that be part of the movie or just an end scene?
Likes - Nightcrawler! nuff said

As of right now, all trailers are being compared to the STAR WARS:TFA trailers and rightfully so. This one doesn't really add up for me. The pacing is a bit slow, we are told the story but I don't feel like the right music was used or the right voice overs...I can't really put my finger on it. It's just "OK". That feels like such a knock on this trailer but its like getting a "C" in Algebra...yes, you passed the class but with only enough work required to move along.

I didn't feel excited after this trailer. There were no 'feels' like the kids say today. STAR WARS:TFA gives me the 'feels' everytime and the TMNT trailer gave me feelings for sure. This one left me hollow. Let's hope the next trailer is better.
